Na Pali coast
| The Na Pali coast of northern Kauai offers some of the most striking and beautiful scenery of any of the Hawaiian islands. These towering sea cliffs (some reaching as high as 3,000 ft +!) are just one of the jewels of the garden isle of Kauai. Visitng the Na Pali coast is easy, but some pre-planning is amust to get the most from your time here.
There are plenty of tours that allow you to kayak in to Kalalau beach, which resides at the end of the 11-mile long Kalalau trail that begins at Ke'e beach north of Princeville and Hanalei bay. Whether you are going to hike the Kalalau trail to experience Na Pali, kayak in and camp from one of the many outfitters available on this site or just see the area via helicopter tour you will not be dissappointed. |
| The beauty of Na pali reaches far beyond the physical beauty one sees. This magical coast was once (up to the 1920's) home to native Hawaiians who, among other things, planted & harvested taro here. This area is full of archaeological sites that are protected by law, so please do not touch. You will need a permit to access the area which will be provided by your outfitter or more info can be found here, Na Pali permit info.
Once you have made all your arraingements and area ready to go, you are in store some good times. Hiking the trail can be done in one long day, but doing it over a 3 day period makes for a wonderful experience and some great photos! Tagging along with one of the Na Pali tour operators is certainly much easier and affords you a bit more time to have fun, as they take care of all the gear and logistics. Finally, the helicopter tour makes viewing Na Pali a half day event, one that can be done and reminisced about over a sunset dinner with a great bottle of fine wine. Ready to go!
